Supporting the Conrad Prebys Music Center

UC San Diego has built an extraordinary new Music Center including a world-class concert hall designed by one of the most distinguished acousticians in the world.

This new center will meet a range of regional and campus performance needs, while elevating UC San Diego's Department of Music - already an acknowledged leader - to an even higher level of recognition and excellence.

When construction of the new building began in 2007, the UC San Diego Department of Music launched a $15 million fundraising initiative to fill this new facility with state-of-the-art equipment and instruments, and to support the most promising students, the most talented faculty and the most innovative educational and research programs.

Your donation will provide critically needed funds for the new Conrad Prebys Music Center - the premier place to create and perform music in San Diego. With the help of private support, the potential of the facility can be fully realized. UC San Diego will be honored to recognize the Music Center's benefactors through a variety of naming opportunities, including:

 

  • Friends of Music: For $99, join our elite group of enthusiastic concertgoers. You receive a 20% discount on our new subscription concert series (Camera Lucida and Wednesdays@7), two concert passes for other performances, and a copy of the Department of Music's latest CD, Sound Check IV.
  • Seat Naming: Celebrate your love for music by naming a seat in one of the best small concert halls in the world. Honor family and friends with a personalized seat plaque in the 400-seat Conrad Prebys Concert Hall. $1,000 per seat, or $5,000 each for premium seating.   • Experimental Theatre: An innovative space designed to meet the needs of the Interdisciplinary Computing and the Arts-Music and Music Theater programs, complete with retractable seating, adjustable digital virtual acoustics system, and large windows to allow for natural lighting which provide views into the building from the northwest corner. $1 million
  • Recital Hall: An excellent small concert hall (150 seats) that will be the busiest room in the Music Center - used as a lecture and rehearsal hall all day and for student recitals in the evening. $1 Million
  • ICAM Recording Suite: A suite of six digital recording studios enabling students to learn recording arts and to record their music with state-of-the-art technology. "Produced in NAME Studios" will be indicated on all media produced here, including released compact disks. $1 million
  • Orchestral Rehearsal Room: Designed to accommodate the La Jolla Symphony and Chorus, this room will provide rehearsal space to accommodate a range of ensembles, and will also serve as a large lecture hall. $500,000
  • Choral Rehearsal Room: A rehearsal room with high ceiling and acoustics designed to accommodate a large vocal group, or large class. Enables purchase of new Steinway B piano. $250,000
  • Chamber Music Rehearsal Studio: A specially designed space for chamber music rehearsal created to simulate concert hall acoustics in a more intimate setting. Enables purchase of new Steinway B piano. $75,000
  • Hi-Tech Seminar Room: State-of-the-art teaching and research space including surround sound system, plasma screen, and internet 2 connections. $100,000
  • Chamber Music Practice Rooms: excellent, acoustically isolated small rehearsal studios. Enables purchase of a new Steinway A piano. Two available at $75,000
  • Music Seminar Room: A classroom for graduate seminars and core courses for undergraduate majors. Enables purchase of a new Steinway A Piano. $75,000
  • Piano Lab: A classroom for teaching undergraduate students basic piano, and keyboard harmony. Enables purchase of digital pianos. $60,000
  • Student Practice Rooms: A hallway full of excellent, acoustically isolated rooms, some with new Steinway pianos, that enable individual students to prepare for rehearsals and lessons. Full suite of 20 rooms, $350,000. Individual rooms, from $10,000 to $60,000, with some gifts enabling purchase of new pianos.
  • Individual Faculty Studios: From a bass studio to voice studios, offices and teaching studios will provide spaces specifically designed for various creative and educational endeavors. $20,000 to $50,000 per room
