UC San Diego's Department of Music

November 06, 2008

Under the direction of violinist János Négyesy, UCSD's Department of Music pays tribute to composer Will Ogdon this Saturday night, November 8, at 8 p.m. in Mandeville Recital Hall. The concert features six chamber works composed by Ogdon, who served as the department's founding chairman beginning in 1966.

Ogdon's philosophies are still very much in evidence today, as promising grad-level composers and performers are given the mentoring they need to grow, but also the freedom they need to experiment and find their own voices.

This concert offers a rare opportunity to hear live performances of music essential to the department of music's evolution and identity. Not only was Ogdon a creative role model for younger faculty and several generations of grad students, but he collaborated with numerous UCSD composers and performers who were fortunate to work with this world-renowned composer.

Ogdon, an emeritus music faculty member who retired in 1991, will attend the concert.

The concert will be followed by a reception honoring Mr. Ogdon.

Tickets for Saturday night's concert and reception will be available at the door.

Cost: $10 general/$5 student/Free for UCSD students.
