Composer Rand Steiger's "Collective Resonance" premieres on June 5 at La Jolla Symphony's concert at Mandeville Auditorium. The performance combines traditional instruments with audio signal processing and spatialization. In May, three new Steiger compositions debuted in New York City: Dreamscape, at NYU Skirball Center; Ecosphere, at the Miller Theater; and Résonateur at Carnegie- Zankel Hall.
Professor and ace contrabassist Mark Dresser is ranked #9 among jazz bassists in Downbeat magazine's 2005 Critics Poll. Mark's May 5 performance with Myra Melford at Club Tropical in L.A. received a rave preview in L.A. CityBeat.
UCSD sitar master Kartik Seshadri performs in the June 21 premiere of Philip Glass's Orion project, at the Ravinia Festival in Chicago—it's the oldest outdoor music festival in North America and attracts 600,000 listeners.

A scale model of the new Music Building, scheduled to break ground next year, will be on view beginning May 18 in Mandeville Auditorium's East Room.
