ENSEMBLEXII PERCUSSORS STORM SAN DIEGO FOR RECORDING SESSIONS AND CONCERTS



  Twelve percussionists from five countries descend on San Diego in early August for a 17-day residency in UCSD's Department of Music that includes several days in the recording studio and two concerts. Recording sessions will focus on percussion music composed by Liza Lim (Australia); Yann Robin, Philippe Shoeller, Yan Maresz (France); and Johannes Fischer (Germany). ensemblexii will also begin recording the music of famed Swiss percussionist Fritz Hauser, a special guest during the residency who will also perform in one of the concerts. On August 15 at 8 p.m. in UCSD's new Conrad Prebys Concert Hall (in the Conrad Prebys Music Center, on Russell Lane across from Gilman Parking Structure), ensemblexii will perform works from the recording sessions, under the direction of Steven Schick. On August 16 at 8 p.m. at Sushi in downtown San Diego (390 11th Ave.), Hauser will be featured as the group presents his music. Both concerts include pre-concert talks at 7&Rhoε p.m. and a post-concert "instrument petting zoo" that lets visitors check out more than 100 percussion instruments.
