LEI LIANG: UNION-TRIBUNE PROFILE EXPLORES HIS ROOTS AND MUSIC

In the latest of his series on UC San Diego composers, San Diego Union-Tribune arts writer Jim Chute takes a detailed look at Lei Liang's music and how it evolved from Lei's early hardships growing up under the oppressive Chinese government. Chute, a superb writer who holds a degree in music, is the first journalist ever to devote intensive time, energy, and news space to the works that place UCSD at the cutting edge of new and innovative music. The online version of his article includes samples of Lei's music, and a fantastic photo of Lei taken by the U-T's Howard Lipin. In this era of rapidly shrinking arts coverage, you can e-mail Union-Tribune Editor Jim Light to remind him of the importance of arts content: james.light@uniontrib.com
