SOPRANO SUSAN NARUCKI EARNS PRAISE FOR DEBUT AT OPERA NATIONAL DE MONTPELLIER
Soprano Susan Narucki recently made her debut at the Opèra de Montpellier in two one-act operas: Elliott Carter's 'What Next?' and Mathis Nitschke's "Jetzt". Susan reprised the role of 'Mama' in this, the first staged production of the work given in France. Written in 1999 with libretto by Paul Griffiths, 'What Next?" was Carter's only opera and already is considered a modern classic. Nitschke's"Jetzt", presented in its world premiere, is a humorous and poignant exploration of human speech. The production was led by conductor Carl Bettendorf and directed by Urs Schönebaum. The Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung praised the production, singling out the cast for their passionate acting and supremely confident singing.
