COMPOSER ANNA THORVALDSDOTTIR WINS $50,000 NEW YORK PHILHARMONIC PRIZE



  Composer and UC San Diego music alumna Anna Thorvaldsdottir has been named by the New York Philharmonic as the Kravis Emerging Composer. Thorvaldsdottir receives a $50,000 stipend and a commission to compose a piece for the Philharmonic. In addition, the orchestra will perform other works by Thorvaldsdottir in upcoming seasons. "Anna has one of the most unique and expressive voices in the compositional scene today," says the Philharmonic's Music Director Alan Gilbert.
