Contrabassist Mark Dresser of the music faculty is among 40 recipients of this year's $80,000 Doris Duke Impact Awards, given to artists who "will have enormous impact on the jazz, dance or theatre fields in the future."

The Impact award is part of a 10-year, $50 million initiative launched in 2011 by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation to "invest in and celebrate artists by offering flexible, multi-year funding in response to financial challenges that are specific to the performing arts."

Also receiving Duke awards in the jazz category are Kris Davis, Milford Graves, Matt Mitchell, Tyshawn Sorey, Henry Threadgill and Reggie Workman.
