Master sitarist Kartik Seshadri of the music faculty performed last Saturday at Opera Naples' Wang Opera Center in Florida, where Indian Classical Music of the kind that is the focus of Pandit Seshadri's career as a musician and educator is enjoying new visibility. The concert was presented by Raaga, a new non-profit Indian arts and culture organization in southwest Florida that presents top-drawer Indian artists, in recent months also including Song of Jasmine, created by Aparna Ramaswamy and Ranee Ramaswamy with jazz saxophonist Rudresh Mahanthappa--who has recorded and performed with contrabassist Mark Dresser of UC San Diego's music faculty. Raaga's webpage links to a Youtube video of Kartik accompanied by praise from his fans such as "a majestic Sitari, you are blessed" to "brilliant music, as Serene and Magical as ever" and "Seshadriji is the greatest sitarist of our time".
