KAMAU KENYATTA DISCUSSES GREGORY PORTER SOUNDTRACK PROJECT WITH THE SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE
![]() |
UC San Diego faculty member Kamau Kenyatta recently spoke with the San Diego Union-Tribune about "Gregory Porter: Don't Forget Your Music," a new documentary for which Kenyatta composed and recorded a soundtrack. (Click here to read the full interview.) Kenyatta has mentored Porter since the two met during the 1990s, when Porter attended a class Kenyatta was teaching at UC San Diego.
Kenyatta wrote eight original compositions for the documentary's soundtrack. The film is expected out in 2017, but local listeners have the opportunity to hear Kenyatta's new music as early as October 1, when he performs at the Museum of Making Music in Carlsbad. "I think it's a wonderful film," Kenyatta told San Diego Union-Tribune reporter George Varga. "I'm very interested in how a musician thinks, and where they come from, and 'Don't Forget' definitely shows that." |
