In concert: Steven Schick to conduct ICE at Stanford
Distinguished Professor and Reed Family Presidential Chair Steven Schick will conduct ICE (the International Contemporary Ensemble) in a performance of works by Anna Thorvaldsdottir, Ashley Fure and the world premiere of a new work by Department of Music alumnus Mark Applebaum. The concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 21 at the Bing Concert Hall at Stanford University. Read more about the concert here.
Department of Music to honor John Fonville
Current graduate students at the Department of Music and alumni will honor flutist and composer John Fonville, a recently retired faculty member and former chairman of the department, with two celebratory concerts in the Conrad Prebys Concert Hall. The first, taking place at 4 p.m. on January•, will feature several of his students performing works written for and by Fonville. The second, taking place at 7 p.m. on January 25, is a free event that will feature Fonville's entire Changing Scales, performed by Fonville and current graduate students.
In concert: Kartik Seshadri performed at 37th Annual Saptak Music Festival
Faculty member Kartik Seshadri recently returned from a three-week tour in India that culminated in a January 3 performance at the Saptak Music Festival. Now in its 37th year, Saptak began in Ahmedabad in Gujarat, India as a festival dedicated to showcasing emerging and established talent with roughly 50 performances held each year on January 1-13. Release: New album by alumnus Nathan East
Bassist and Department of Music alumnus Nathan East releases his new solo album Reverence today through Yamaha Entertainment Group. Internationally recognized for his solo and collaborative work, the Grammy-nominated East brings both elements to this second solo album, which features guest performers Eric Clapton, Phil Collins, Chick Corea and more.
