In concert: Stephanie Richards to conduct Phantom Station
Assistant Professor of Music Stephanie Richards will perform conductions with members of the Phantom Station Ensemble, featuring special guest Oyvind Brandtsegg, professors Erik Carlson and Amy Cimini, Department of Music Recording Engineer Andrew Munsey and graduate students Tommy Babin, James Gutierrez and David DeFilippo. The performance will take place at 8 p.m. on January 30, 2017 at the Loft. Click here to learn more.

This concert is the first in a three-part series that strives to excavate spontaneous sonic combustion and delve into the unknown through Conduction, an artistic process created by Butch Morris to enable "an improvised duet for ensemble and conductor" without words or musical notation. This concert is part of the Conduction series, with future performances occurring in February and March.

Department of Music professors collaborate for second annual
Reed Family Concert

Distinguished Professor of Music and Reed Family Presidential Chair Steven Schick will conduct the second annual Reed Family Concert at Mandeville Auditorium on Wednesday, February 1 at 7 p.m. The concert will feature performances of Edgard Varese's Octandre, the world premiere of graduate composer Anahita Abbasi's Cordatum and Pierre Boulez's orchestral masterpiece Repons. The performance will also feature technical integration and spatialization led by Professor Miller Puckette and graduate student Johannes Regnier, sound design by Professor Shahrokh Yadegari and lighting by Theatre and Dance graduate student Alex Miller-Long.

Performers will include members of Renga as well as several soloists, including Distinguished Professor Aleck Karis (piano), Nicholas Tolle (cimbalom), Principal Harpist of the San Diego Symphony Julie Smith Phillips and graduate students Kyle Adam Blair (piano), Fiona Digney (xylophone and glockenspiel) and James Beauton (vibraphone).
