ANTHONY DAVIS'S NEW OPERAS INCLUDE TRIBUTE TO INDIAN CHIEF



  Anthony Davis's new opera "Wakonda's Dream," inspired by the story of Ponca Indian Chief Standing Bear and the loss of Native American lands, culture and lives during America's westward expansion, premieres in March 2007 at Opera Omaha. Davis is 3/8 Cherokee, so he has a personal interest in Native American history. He's also at work on "Revolution in Form," a new a new opera about the Cuban Revolution. It's been a busy year for the UCSD professor of music, pianist and composer. Last April, he was awarded a Guggenheim fellowship.
