MUSIC ALUM MING TSAO IS HEADED FOR SWEDEN

Ming Tsao, who earned his Ph.D. in composition at UCSD and is currently a Faculty Fellow, has been appointed Professor of Composition at the University of Gothenberg in Sweden beginning in the Fall.
Tsao is a prolific composer whose works have been performed by the Arditti String Quartet and the Australian group ELISION. At UCSD, Mr. Tsao was mentored by Chaya Czernowin. For his dissertation, he composed "Pathology of Syntax" ("saturated with fragments that I transcribe from the late Beethoven string quartets") and "One-Way Street" (an allusion to the Western film genre, where "a sense of inevitability determines the structure").
Gothenburg is a port city of 510,4Α with a diverse arts scene including the National Orchestra of Sweden conducted by Gustavo Dudamel. The Gothenburg Museum of Art includes paintings by Rembrandt, Rubens, Van Gogh, and Cezanne.
