UC San Diego's Department of Music

January 05, 2016

Cuatro Corridos, the critically acclaimed chamber opera starring soprano Susan Narucki of the music faculty and which she created in collaboration with Mexican author Jorge Volpi and composers Hebert Vazquez, Arlene Sierra, Hilda Paredes and UC San Diego's Lei Liang, returns to UCSD for one night only on Jan.13 at 7 PM at Conrad Prebys Music Center, performed by pianist Aleck Karis, guitarist Pablo Gomez and percussionist Ayano Kataoka.

This moving story of four women caught in human trafficking along the Mexico-U.S. border premiered at UC San Diego in 2013 and was subsequently performed in Los Angeles, Dallas, Amherst, Albuquerque, Tijuana, Mexico City and mostly recently at the Feria Internacional del Libro de Guadalajara, the huge international book fair where Volpi's new novel, based on the opera, made its debut.

The production team includes artist-activist Karen Guancione, lighting designer Kristin Hayes, costume designer Halei Parker and graphics animators Cameron Bailey and Sam Doshier. Jason Ponce serves as technical director for the project.
