Started studying the clarinet at 10 years old and he's been a musician ever since. Born in Detroit and raised in the Los Angeles area, Zelickman earned his MFA degree at the California Institute of the Arts where he studied with Michelle Zukovsky. He has taught the clarinet at the University of California since 1983.

He performs with the San Diego Symphony, the San Diego Opera, Starlight Opera, and the San Diego Chamber Orchestra and spent three years in Mexico as a member of the Mexico City and the Veracruz Symphonies. He is an active member of SONOR.
