Cancellation at Notch Frequencies

Consider a sinusoid at $ f = 1/(2\tau)$ (period of $ 2\tau$):

\scalebox{0.65}{\includegraphics{oneovertau.eps}}

Delaying that sinusoid by $ \tau$ (1/2 a period) yields:

\scalebox{0.65}{\includegraphics{oneovertaushift.eps}}

Summing with original yields complete cancellation:

\scalebox{0.65}{\includegraphics{oneovertaushiftsum.eps}}
