- Scattering is a phenomenon in which the wave is
scattered into an infinity of waves propagating in different
directions.
- As we have seen, a discontinuity in the diameter of an acoustic
tube will cause traveling waves to be partially reflected and
partially transmitted--a scattering in two (2) directions.
- Examples of discontinuities causing scattering:
- A change of tube diameter
- A junction with other acoustic elements (tubes, cavities),
- Tone holes.
