- The process by which an analog signal is digitized is called
analog-to-digital or ``a-to-d'' conversion
- analog-to-digital converter (ADC): the device that
discretizes (digitizes) an analog signal.
- The ADC must accomplish two (2) tasks:
- sampling:
- taking values (samples) at regular time intervals;
- quantization:
- assign a number to the value (using limited computer bits).
